Yesterday, we organised a free lecture for employees interested in learning more about online financial threats and cybersecurity. The session was led by Lieutenant Bc. Miroslav Kolátek from the Prevention Department of the Police of the Czech Republic.
During the 90-minute session, employees learned about the most common online scams, including fake bank representatives, fraudulent investment offers and scams on classified advertising platforms. This time, however, particular emphasis was placed on the human factor – how easily we can be caught off guard when we are in a hurry, caught up in the pre-Christmas rush or taking care of everyday tasks on the go.
What are our key takeaways from the lecture?
- No American soldier or wealthy oil rig worker is in love with us. Behind these profiles are cold-blooded cybercriminals.
- People we know do not randomly send requests to vote in online polls to help their children advance in competitions.
- You cannot win a competition you never entered.
- Never click on links without checking them first. Always check the actual sender’s email address before opening a message or clicking a link.
- Slow down when you are in a hurry. This is especially important in the run-up to Christmas, when we will be placing and tracking numerous orders. Let’s not click through messages without thinking while holding our phones, running to catch a bus or pushing a shopping trolley around the supermarket. These are precisely the moments when we are most likely to unintentionally give scammers access to our online banking.
The knowledge we gained is valuable not only in our personal lives but also in the workplace, where vigilance is an important part of security.
We would like to thank Lieutenant Bc. Miroslav Kolátek for an excellent and informative lecture!
